Gov Otti insists Abia must have best Security system comparable to World standard ,hence reforms in Homeland Security…. Alajemba.

The Senior Special Assistant, SSA to the Governor on Homeland security, Abia State, Mr Chukwunenye Nwogu Alajemba has said that on hiring him to oversee the Homeland security outfit, Governor Alex Otti insisted that Abia must have the best security system comparable to World standard Abians can be proud of,hence the current reforms in our security system in the State .

The Senior Special Assistant SSA to the Governor on Homeland security,Mr Alajemba added that at Homeland security,that the outfit is using modern technology to fight crimes and criminality in the state resulting to the breakthroughs recorded by the current administration of Gov Alex Otti.

In an interview with Newsmakers online news medium at his office, factory road, Umuahia while appraising Gov Alex Otti ‘s one year in office in the areas of security,he expressed optimism that Abia has not had it so good before now, adding that because of policies and programmes of the current administration,crime rate has reduced drastically.

He pointed out that with the regular payment of workers salaries as at when due,workers can now plan their lives and this has led to night life gradually returning to the cities of Umuahia and Aba .

According to him,” When
Gov Alex Otti hired me,asked me to go and replicate that which i was doing while working at Ireland ,the governor insisted that Abia must have the best security system comparable to the world standard Abians can be proud.”

His Excellency,Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti tasks his SSA on Homeland security to ensure Abia has Security system comparable to World standard.

He however extolled Governor Otti for providing the homeland security with the much needed enablement for them to excel in the art of using modern technology
to fight crimes and criminality and to be more proactive in crimes prevention in the State.

“For me,the Homeland security has to function in a professional way as opposed to the vigilante kind of operation before I came on board,Gov Otti wanted me to deliver the kind of security and not the kind one people are used to,I guess that was the reason why the Governor hired me.” Alajemba said.

“We are trying to use technology to fight crimes and criminality,and to be more proactive, what we are saying, is,whether it is vigilante or homeland security,how do we deliver security that Abians can be proud of.”?

The Senior Special Assistant,SSA, Mr Chukwunyere Alajemba, a Master’s degree holder on International Security Management and Conflict Resolution,graduated from Dublin University, Ireland. said that when he came on board,the office environment was not something to write home about, cannot even invite any visitor to the state and be proud of the kind office he inherited.

To this end,he therefore sought the permission and approval of the governor to provide the homeland security office, a conducive office environment to operate in, noting that that neccessited the new look you one is seeing as he renovated the entire office complex .

He further disclosed that from the onset,Governor Alex Otti ordered him to find out the root cause of crime in the society and that through investigations discovered that consumption of hard drugs by youths have been a contributing factor to crime in the state.

Mr Alajemba who also is in charge of Abia State Vigilante explained measures taken in tackling drug related offences, fighting drug peddlers and the consumers, this he said led to the recent arrest of a notorious female drug peddler in Umuahia.

With this fight , drug peddlers and the consumers are running away from the state and peace is gradually returning to the state. He observed that the regular payment of workers salary in the state and the regular payment of pensioners by the state governor all contributed to the relative peace currently being witnessed in the state .

“When people have access to money, it help to reduce pressure , tension and crime in the society.Gradually night life is coming back to Umuahia because there is peace in the city “.

Another focal point of his work schedules was the reforms in the fire Service,the area he said,the Governor directed a departure from the old order,in the area of rapid response to emergency situations by fire service in the State,in area of timing for rescue operations and of course, provided means to equip the fire Service stations with modern fire fighting equipments in the State.

He disclosed that Homeland security is recording a huge success in the reforms programmes in the fire service stations in the State, adding the urgent need for training all and sundry on the first aid in fire fighting techniques especially to students and people at home on preliminary measures to be taken in putting out small fires before it spreads to uncontrollable level.

Alajemba said the Governor was concerned on how to resuscitate the fire stations and provide professional touch that would make the services not only national but the world standard..

The former graduate of Abia State University,Uturu,further said upon his appointment, the first thing he did was to take a tour of the fire Service facilities in Umuahia and Aba and discovered that the stations were dilapidated .

He immediately commenced the reforms of the stations , today, he and his team have been able to return the fire Service stations in Umuahia and Aba to it’s lost glory.

The SSA on Homeland security expressed optimism on the efficiency in turning out emergency situations noting that right now fire fighting in Abia State is of international standard both in timing and services just as the governor desired it.The governor, he said bought most of the fire fighting equipments in the stations

In terms of timing , Mr. Alajemba said they were able to reduce the time of rapid response to emergency calls from 17 minutes in December 2023 to 7 to 10 minutes in January 2024 which he said is international timing standard .

For effective operation,the Senior Special Assistant setup a tripartite emergency team, made up of the fire service team , Security Agencies and a Medical team . The team have the mandate to tackle all emergency and distress calls within the stipulated time limit ,the hydrant system are being installed for this ,water boreholes have been drilled at the fire stations .
