The State Coordinator of
Concerned Abia Pensioners,CAP,Chief Emeka Okezie has condemned in it’s totality the public statement credited to some members of Abia State chapter of Nigeria Union of Pensioners to the effect that their Executive did not represent them well during discussions that led to the payment of outstanding pensions, noting that Government should not be distracted over such ill.motivated statement.

Chief Emeka Okezie added that issuance of such public statement by some members of Abia State chapter of Nigeria Union of Pensioners were targeted against Dr Alex Otti labour party led Government so as to portray it in bad light, wondering why NUP should make issue Public outburst for a government that has restored lost hope of Abia pensioners who were hitherto languishing in retirement as a result non payment of outstanding pensions before the quick intervention of the present government.

Abia State Governor,Dr Alex Otti

The State tate Coordinator of Concerned Abia Pensioners, CAP disclosed this Wednesday in Umuahia in exclusive interview with newsmakers online newspaper while reacting to the public statement issued by some members of Abia State chapter of NUP to the effect that their Executive did not represent them well during discussions with the government that led to the payment of their outstanding pensions in the state.

He maintained that NUP today was a stooge of the immediate past administration of PDP, adding that was the reason why ” Concerned Abia Pensioners CAP came into being,as a pressure group to cater for the welfare of demoralized pensioners.

According to the strong willed pensioner,” during Ikpeazu’s era,NUP were only interested in collections of Check off dues, not interested in welfare of pensioners,we protested against then government, wore black with black went into prayers for a change of government, the NUP started attacking us that we want to destabilize the past PDP government ”

He said” our protest led to a petition they wrote against us,when they heard that we wanted to stage another protest,we were arrested by police ,kept in the cell for two days, all Concerned Abia Pensioners CAP with their black attires stormed the police station in Umuahia, this forced the Area Commander to release us”

The embattled State Coordinator of Concerned Abia Pensioners said they are happy that Government of PDP was booted out of office to pave the way for people oriented labour party Government ably led by the visionary, performing Governor,Dr Alex Chioma Otti

Okezie added that as they are rejoicing for the payment of outstanding pensions and full monthly payment, but alas, NUP of today ,kicked against it,but we were not deterred but eventually went on with our solidarity march on 9th May,2024 moved round to major streets in Umuahia, ended up at the main gate of Government House, Umuahia with a big banner, as we wore all white attires in appreciation of the good things that are happening before their eyes.

“We thank Governor Alex Otti for the prompt payment of our monthly pensions,we were hoping for 28th of every month as promised by him but on 27th April,2024, we got credit alert for it,God will bless him as he continues to take care of pensioners and entire state” Okezie prayed.

He pointed out that Gov Alex Otti has performed exceedingly well in one year in office, when he will clock two years, three years,Abia will look like Japan of Nigeria, just like Japan of Asian country, begging the Governor to forgive mistakes made by some NUP executive,to help look into the issue of their gratuity.

Meanwhile, he said ,”Concerned Abia Pensioners are not in support of the public statement issued by some members of the Abia State chapter of Nigeria Union of pensioners, majority of pensioners are with us,that was the reason why we went on Solidarity march ”

State Coordinator called on the state government to expedite action to conduct proper election granted that the tenure of the current crop of executive of NUP has long expired, and also to look into locking of NUP secretariat and direct them to allow Concerned Abia Pensioners access to the hall to have their Thursday weekly fasting and prayers meetings.

“Masses are on daily basis blessing our Governor, Concerned Abia Pensioners are extremely happy and praying for him for the good work he is going in Abia State,we cannot therefore be part of detractors who may wish to rock the boat of good governance we are witnessing under the dynamic leadership of Gov Alex Otti, that is why we are condemning in it’s entirely, the public statement issued by some members of Abia State chapter of Nigeria Union of pensioners ” Chief Emeka Okezie added.

He however queried the rationale behind the public statement issued by NUP against the government of Dr Alex Otti that has shown enormous concern towards the plight of Abia pensioners, noting that that was what gave rise to the birth of Concerned Abia Pensioners as a pressure group to fight for the emancipation of Abia Pensioners.

The no nonesense leader of a splinter pensioners however lamented the ordeal the pensioners were going through in the hands insensitive past government with NUP only interested in collection of Check off dues rather than fighting for the the interest of the pensioners in the state .

He condemned the protest of NUP against the people – centric Government of Dr Alex Otti, adding it was the same executive that took side with the dislodged PDP administration and such should not be taken serious by meaning Abians.

In a swift reaction, the Commissioner for information,Prince Okey, Monday during the weekly Exco media briefing at Government House, Umuahia chided some members of Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) who issued a public statement to the effect that their executives did not represent them well during the discussions that led to the payment of their outstanding pensions in the state.

Prince Okey Kanu noted that it is funny that the complaints was coming after the pensioners had received bank credit alert of their pensions.

“They embarked on a unilateral action and decided to write a public letter to the government without first seeking for clarifications from the government officials concerned. That’s not the right way to go about it; not with a government that means well for workers. A government that has paid Abia pensioners their outstanding pensions with some dating back to 2014. A government that promised to pay pensioners their full monthly pensions going forward and has fulfilled that promise in the month of April and is poised to sustain the payments going forward.

“A government that has come to your rescue after being owed several years of pensions; that’s not the way to show gratitude..
