Ekenobizi border community demands for Governments presence to curb increasing cross-border crime and criminality into Abia

The traditional Prime Minister of Ekenaobizi Autonomous Community, Umuopara in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State,Chief Solomon Kanu has pleaded with the State Government to establish it’s presence in the community as a panacea in curbing the noticeable rising cross border crime and criminality allegedly committed from stranger elements from neighbouring Imo State.

Ekenobizi in Umuopara is the last border community to Onuimo market in Obowo local Government areas of Imo State,infact a stone throw to Onuimo River , been the border between the two sister states,Abia and Imo.

He added that to attract investors into the state,there is the dire of establishing security presence in the border area between the two states to checkmate cross border crimes and criminality in Ekenobizi community.

The Traditional Prime minister of Ekenobizi Umuopara,Prince Solomon Kanu who was speaking through his deputy,Chief Temple Nwosu,PhD in an interview with newsmakers.ng.com on fact finding
revealed that as at the time of the visit, the community was yet to find a successor to thier late monarch,HRH Eze A. A Uwanamodo and as such, the traditional Prime minister  whom he said is the regent and with the assistance  of the Monarch’s Council oversee to the development of the community .

According to him, one of the most challenges the community has been facing is cross border crimes and criminality which he said did did not today,but has witnessed an upsurge in recent times in area of kidnapping, stealing,car snatching etc.

“The State government should come and step up a cross border security outfit,for us as a people, we want government to get investors to come and develop our land by building a shopping mall there, so that, when you are entering into Abia, the first thing you will see a will be the massive Mall with Parking lot, so that drivers can stop over to recreate and continue with their journey.

He further disclosed that at the community level, the traditional prime minister has commenced search for investors as well as stepped up contact with the State government on how to attract an investors,

“The moment government taps into it, you will see the whole place develop into a commercial place,  you will see employment generated, security enhanced, because,  crimes hate light, it strives more in darkness, cross border crimes will be minimized if not totally eradicated “

On the proposed plans by the State government to dualize Umuopara Onuimo, two lane road that passed  through the community into a four lane,Kanu described the project as an  economic booster.
“The present two lane is too narrow,the planned four lane will bring a lot of development,we welcome it as a people, when the contractor commences work,we will cooperate with them so that government will not in cure any loss “
