World Environment day:Tinubu has done well in tackling climate change issues,…Rep Sam Onuigbo,

The Member representing South-East,in the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission,NEDC, Rep Sam Onuigbo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on efforts put in place in tackling the climate change issues in Nigeria saying that he has done exceedingly well so far.

Rep Sam Onuigbo who was immediate past federal law maker that represented Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South in the Green chambers of the National Assembly made this commendation, Wednesday during an event to comemmorate the World Environment day held at National Roots Crops Research Institute,NRCRI,Umudike,noted that all hands must be on deck to save the planet earth from things capable of degrading and causing problems leading to environmental challenges in the country.

Delivering his keynote address with theme:” “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”Rep Sam Onuigbo regretted that so much land degradation has taken place in the country leading to desertification, drought and climate change, adding that the situation can be arrested by creating awareness

He also made a case for the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) saddled with the responsibility of drawing up curriculum to ensure the integration of climate change in all school curricular and disciplines across all educational levels to enable the younger generations internalize and understand what they are supposed to do in safeguarding the environment

Meanwhile, during the interview session,the colourful but soft spoken politician extolled Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu adding that President Tinubu has done exceedingly well in tackling climate change issues and described the theme for this year’s event as apt as it would address the environmental challenges in Nigeria

In a related development,the former Vice Chairman,Alex Ekwueme, Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo Funai, Ebonyi State,Prof Chinedum Nwajiuba commended Rep Sam Onuigbo for sponsoring Nigeria’s Climate Change Act 2021 in the 9th Assembly after several failed attempts in the previous Assemblies.

Prof Nwajiuba made the commendation during the 2024 World Environment Day celebration at the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, Abia State, where Rep Onuigbo gave the Keynote Address.

He acknowledged the importance of the Act, which he described as the Sam Onuigbo Climate Change Act.

He urged nigerians in both the private and public sectors to join hands and fight the climate crisis because it is an existential threat.
