…calls on IGP for protection of lives, properties,

By: Nwaeze Moses/ Umuahia.

The story of Mrs Onyinye Ibe nee Urum Ukaegbu is a very sympathetic one. it is one that ordinarily should evoke feelings of human feelings especially so given her penchant to do good to her kinsmen back home at Abariba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State while still living overseas.

This was a woman who knew what she wanted in life from day one in her youthful age, worked hard to accomplish the said task, decided to invest at home front to enable her siblings and kinsmen following plethora of demands, having been helping them with money, payment of hospital bills, providing them providing them with palliatives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Not only that ,Mrs Onyinye Ibe was credited to have rendered other humanitarian services to her kinsmen in Abariba all the way from United States of America for the past years before establishment of the piggery farm in 2023 meant to cushion the effects of their numerous demands .

But alas,it appears ,this humane disposition of this amazon ,this great philanthropist has been misconstrued for stupidity, for granted,in effect, has not been well appreciated by those who are benefitting from her kind natured ness.

As it stands, there are alleged plans by some people to burn down the piggery farm built to assist her people if the information and intelligent reports getting to her are anything to go by.

To avert loss of lives and properties,Mrs Onyinye Ibe through her proxy has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Nigeria police,IGP, Kayode Egbetokun to wade in and halt any likely evil plans to destroy her farm by some members of Abariba community.

She however decried that as at the last count, that she has invested over two hundred million naira ( #200 million) and the said farm which has different departments such as: piggery, cassava, vegetable etc regrettably without collecting a dime as profit since it was established in 2023.

She told our reporter that trouble started on 24th January,2025,when one of the employees of the farm,Mr Joseph Urum fell sick and was taken to a private clinic at Abariba, the doctor looked at the matter and said that they did not have the capacity and medical equipment to work on the patient, thereafter referred them to Federal Medical Centre FMC Umuahia.

At FMC,she revealed that they rejected treating the patient and referred them to private clinic at Mbaise in Imo state wherein after they carried out the surgical operation that was successful ,few days later, unfortunately he died.

The US based biz woman further revealed that all through the time the employee was reported sick, she did not rest on her oars, told them to quickly take him to the hospital and followed every developments of all the hospitals visited until he eventually passed on.

She however wondered while of their kinsmen should accused her of killing the employee, Joseph Urum who died after a brief illness and surgical operation even while she resides in the United States of America.

Sadly, she noted that it was very unfortunate that her employee died after spirited efforts were made to save his life all to no avail.

Meanwhile,,she pointed out that three members of her employees working in the farm are undergoing police investigation having been allegedly fingered concerning circumstances surrounding the death of the young man.

In a petition she sent to the Inspector General of Police,IGP, Nigeria Police Force at Louis Edet House,Abuja , through her representative, Mr Henry Ojiegbe through a petition signed by Barr Awa Obasi Chambers,Bende road, Umuahia dated 4th March 2025 and made available to newsmen in Umuahia.

She however called on the IGP to mobilize his men to protect lives and properties in her” Do Good farm” adding that Abariba Police Force may not be able to control the surge, hence the petition for protection.

She noted that it has become expident that IGP should order a stronger reinforcement to Abariba in order avert loss of lives and properties, should some members of the community make do their alleged plans to attack her piggery farm.

In a video call interview with Mrs Onyinye Ibe monitored by our reporter in Umuahia that a new dimension has crept into the matter as the villagers posted on their WhatsApp platform that she murdered Joseph Urum in order to harvest his kidney for organ transplant of his son.

She however wondered while they should accused her of killing her employee who died after a brief illness and surgical operation even while she resides in the United States of America.

Sadly, she regretted that it was very unfortunate that her employee died after spirited efforts were made to save his life all to no avail.

Meanwhile,,she pointed out that upon the death of Joseph Urum, his family accused the farm manager,Pastor Ejemole Ukegbu who took the late staff to the hospital for being responsible for his death.

She added that the matter was reported Police Division at Abariba wherein Pastor Ejemole Ukegbu,Oko Ukegbu and Maduka Bassey were arrested on allegations of being responsible for Joseph’s death.

Meanwhile, the trio are still in detention as at the time of filling this report.

Our source also gathered that this matter has also been reported to the paramount traditional ruler in Abariba, the Enachioken of Abariba,HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu who was said to have sealed up the farm but through intervention of the people, directed that the farm be opened so as to save the lives of pigs in the said farm.

Narrating her ordeal,Mrs Onyinye Ibe explained that way back in December,2023,she invested the piggery farm following clarion calls by her people as an illustrious daughter from Abariba but who later got married to a man from Imo state and blessed with five children all living in America and are all doing well in their various chosen careers.

The piggery farm was established for altruistic purposes in order to give back to the community part of the resources God blessed her with .

“At 60 years, I felt I have seen it all in life, ups and downs, with my children all grown up, doing well, having been helping my siblings year in ,year out in a polygamous family of 23 siblings, there was no year,I will not send money back home running into millions of naira” Mrs Onyinye Ibe narrated.

She further pointed out that she decided to invest at home having hearkens to the plea of her people, adding that it was promptings borne out of altruistic service, given back to my Abariba community with the resources God blessed her with, but sadly noted the gangs up is forcing her to contemplate if she made a mistake of investing at home for the community good.

Mrs Ibe maintained that since the farm was established way back in 2023, nobody has given her a dime and she is not bothered because it wasn’t meant for investment purposes .

Irked by the insensitive nature of some of her people towards community good, she narrated what she went through in life before making it in life.

According to US based Nigerian born woman “It was not as if achievements were gotten on gold platter, this was without dint of hard work and perseverance before fortunes eventually came my way after and having sojourned in the United States of America for over 27 years ago.

Prior to relocation to America, she was already armed with her quality University Education here in Nigeria where she studied Architecture and graduated from University of Nigeria, Nsukka,Enugu Campus at the age of 22 years plus.

She also embarked on further studies at United States which gave her a leverage to find her footing in the foreign land at a very young age, determined to make it in life, against all odds, travelled out overseas,on arrival, having only 100 US dollars in her hand to cater for all bills and welfare ,she was not deterred but trust her God in her ability and brain, worked for straight 16 years in America without taken a vacation in order to raise her children, through I can do spirit of Igbo man or woman, she made it and was instant success with her five children, all university graduates lawyer, Doctor, Business,in the military, coupled with her own line of business

To this end,she established multimillion farm land at Abariba home employed people who are managing it on behalf while she sends money and other necessary logistics required for the farm to stand firm, including other numerous services rendered to their people from her God given wealth just to add values to their lives is being misconstrued by some people in their community who may want the humanitarian services to continue.

In this connection , therefore, it does appear that this altruistic service, service to humanity, pro bono service rather than being reciprocated with commensurate appreciation from her people, rather than being a blessing to her is unfortunately turning out to be something one should regret embarking on charity work to the people, not appreciated by those the “Do Good farm” is supposed to service.

I have done altruistic things for life it didn’t start today.I am involved in Nursing and policy procedure,I like seeing things to have structure but in Nigeria,i am an Architect,i studied at University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu Campus and i graduated at the age of 22 years plus.

And i attended Government Secondary school Enugu,i obtained 8 Alphas in all the subjects.

I have altruistic things in life,it didn’t start today. I have always excel in academics because reading is in the brain. My father, late Urum Ukaegbu was very literate,so reading is in the brain.
I decided to do good because every good thing you did to your neighbour even if you say ,good morning, helps to grow humanity.

“The day I came to United States of America I had only 100 dollars in my hand as my bills but I knew I had God and had brain because, this is a country if you work hard, you will be remunerated . Trust God I made it to the highest order,I worked 15 hours every day without taken a vacation,I worked straight for sixteen years to raise my children, now they have all grown, and are doing well in their respective callings,I decided to assist my people

I urged the media to investigate and find out if what I was telling you is the truth or not.

Attempt to reach out the Abariba community leadership to find out their own side of the story proved abortive as at the time of filling this report.
