The coordinator of “Concerned Abia Pensioners”,Chief Emeka Okezie has tongue lashed the current leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, noting that they deserved the lashing received from Gov Alex Otti because they are not carrying pensioners along.
He added that Abia NUP went into negotiations with the government without consulting the retirees as tqo be guided on what to present to the government but went on their own,only to turn back to cry alibi, wondering why that should be 1the case.
Chief Emeka Okezie who is currently the coordinator for Concerned Abia Pensioners( CAP) noted NUP as a body was not diplomatic in their approach knowing fully well on what Gov Otti has been
doing a lot for the state, should have commend the government,then politely remind them on need to clear their pension arrears and gratuities and not to confront government with false information.
He maintained that having paid them part of their arrears,rather than being confrontational,NUP ought have pleaded with the Gov , please,help us to pay the outstanding gratuity,we know that you are barely few months old when you took over reigns of power,help us.
To this end, Okezie pointed out that it was uncalled for, unheard of that after signing a Memorandum of Agreement ( MOA) with Government,the NUP leadership turned back to say that they were forced to signed the agreement concerning forfeiting their gratuities, even when they failed to carry pensioners along during the negotiation imbroglio.
The Coordinator of Concerned Abia Pensioners, Chief Emeka Okezie however pleaded with the amiable governor to rescind on his earlier decision not to have anything to do with pensioners, adding we know that NUP leadership has erred, after signing agreement,how can they come back to say that our governor deceived them?
They caused the problem themselves because of failure to consult with retirees they are representing due to their personal selfish interest .
Chief Emeka Okezie, Coordinator, Concerned Abia Pensioners said that he knows Dr Alex Otti as a straight forward person,but however pleaded that he should reconsider his stand to pay their gratuities,,even if the payment is on four or five months instalments to enable him pay gradually,that Abia pensioners shall be very grateful..
Okezie further noted that in less than two years in office,Dr Alex Otti has been executing people oriented projects across the seventeen (17) local government areas of the state.
According to the Coordinator of Concerned Abia Pensioners ” Gov Alex Otti has touched almost all the local government areas in the state with projects that are people – oriented,as against what were on board before he took over the reigns of power in God’s own state”
Chief Emeka Okezie called for the conduct of election into the NUP noting that the tenure of the current Executive has since elasped , therefore have no business of illegally occupying the office.
He pointed out that since the death of former Chairman of NUP,late Udensi,what the current leadership are doing is to recycle themselves in one position or the other, adding that they have long passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership because they are not carrying pensioners along.
Coordinator of Concerned Abia Pensioners who revealed that almost all of them in the state leadership are drawing their pensions from local government pensions board , therefore, should not occupy seats meant for Secondary school pensioners.
To this end,he called for the intervention of the state government to address the issue for the proper election to be conducted and put the issue finally to rest.
