The Akubaraoha 1 of Umuopara,Sir Dr Davis Ako Obioma has congratulated Ndieze Umuopara for the successful celebration of 2024 new yam festival of Umuopara while also calling on Gov Alex Otti to pay outstanding debt to contractors handling Umuopara Ring road to enable them go back to the site.

Sir Dr Ako Obioma made commendation to Ndieze Umuopara,Friday during the  Iwaji 2024 ceremony held at Ogbodiukwu primary and Secondary schools.

In his address,the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Daman Plaza ,Sir Dr Davis Ako Obioma used the Iwaji Umuopara 2024 ceremony to thank Ndi Eze Umuopara immensely for considering his role in attracting and constructing of Ogbodi Ukwu and Umuopara ring roads, including Human Capital Development Projects as reasons for their choice of conferring on him the “AKUBARAOHA1 of Umuopara”which was the  maiden edition of Iwa ji Umuopara.

He added that he stands to appreciate Ndi Eze and Umuopara people for considering his plea and their role in electing his younger brother, Hon Emeka Obioma to the Abia House of Assembly and their support for voting and supporting Dr Alex Otti led government.

“As I have redeemed most of my pledges to Ndi Eze Umuopara including the N500,000 ,my younger brother Hon Emeka Obioma pledged during his electioneering campaign, I promise to continue supporting you in all your effort to develop and maintain peace in Umuopara.

He however wondered the rationale behind the discordant tunes concerning Umuopara Ring road ,hence the need to react in order to set the record straight, adding that it was his only request in 1998 to back Dr Orji Uzor Kalu’s quest to govern Abia in 1999.

According to Sir Dr Ako Obioma,”It was my only request in 1998 to Dr Orji Kalu exactly in Ogbodinibe primary school when i brought him there as he came to seek our support for his election. It’s worthy to note that i initiated, designed and named it Umuopara ring road.

But alas,he noted that unfortunately, Dr Orji Kalu failed that promise and it remained his only misunderstanding with him and Senator T A Orji accepted his request and awarded it in addition to my request for Ogbodiukwu community roads.

“Though he could not flag them off nor pay mobilization for them, I started the two projects without any payment. For Ogbodiukwu road, we asphalted it up to  Mbara Ogbodi.”High Chief Ako Obioma said.

Obioma maintained that Dr Okezie Ikpeazu Flagged off the N1.5 billion, 8.5km Umuopara ring road project with payment of only N100m and abandoned it because our sons who were stakeholders in PDP told him they don’t need the roads.

He said,”I continued the road with my money to Ehume and asphalted 2.5km which was certified by Ministry of Work   with outstanding unpaid certificate of N279,312,628.30 for certified executed works and we hope to complete the remaining 6km whenever the government pays the outstanding debt.

I’m pleading with our sons in Dr Alex Otti’s government  to pressure him to come and genuinely fulfil his promise to ndi Umuopara. He said if we vote out PDP and bring him in, he would construct Umuopara Ring Road.

According to an illustrious son,”
“We have done our part, Umuopara and Umuahia South gave him the highest vote, Pls come and construct Umuopara ring road. ” Obioma pleaded.

Recently, we have seen a new publication for tender to award same Umuopara road. If re-awarding it to another company will solve the problem, Please the government should follow due process, pay us for the good work we have done and take the road. But Let it not be another gimmick of
previous government in setting the community against each other or against the contractor handling the project.
I’m also begging ndi Umuopara to continue to support Dr Alex Otti’s govt, he is doing well, Ndi Igbo si Ekele onye akidi ya agwota ozo”.

Sir Dr Ako Obioma therefore advised that the need to  support development and peace in Umuopara, if you can’t attract, pls don’t destroy.
