FG To Invest More On Upgrading Of Medical Facilities Across The Country.
In line with the renewed hope agenda of president Bola Tinubu administration, federal government has worked out modalities for massive investment in health sector across the country.
The Executive Secretary TETFUND, Arc Sonny Echono who stated this during the public presentation of African Stride Int’l magazine and Award in Abuja the need for public/private sectors partnership in line with the renewed hope agenda of president Bola Tinubu administration cannot be overemphasized.
According to him, going by decisive commitment of government in this direction, the era of medical tourism will soon be a thing of the past, ” so this partnership with private sector will not only compliment government efforts, but equally go a long way in reducing the rate at which we travel out for medical attentions”
The Executive Secretary of TETFUND pointed the out the country needs to readdress the issue of medical tourism as the country cannot continue to afford huge foreign exchange to the detriment of the country.
Arc Echono while acknowledging TETFUND contributions in the area of Research and Grants to Tertiary Institutions, he said the Award of Best Vice Chancellor of Universities of Health/Medical Sciences in Nigeria on Prof Innocent Ujah as befitting judging by the tremendous achievements recorded in Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo .
The keynote speaker, Prof Innocent Ujah in his presentation decried the unfortunate level of Primary Health Care Centres across the various communities and local governments .
Prof Ujah who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo commended the various interventions of Federal Government, ” but unfortunately the authorities at the local levels have done nothing to address the deteriorating situation of Primary Health Care Centres in their Communities”
Speaking on a way forward, Prof Ujah while appealing for effective collaboration between the State and local government to adequately address the health needs of rural communities in the country, he equally identified insecurity as one of the major challenges affecting medical profession in rural communities.

High point of the occasion was presentation of awards to four personalities namely Prof Innocent Ujah OON, VC Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, Dr Christopher Otabo, Managing Director of Alliance Hospital, Abuja, Prof Abdus-Samu Adewale Musa- Olomu, Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta , Kenneth Okokie, CEO of Synlab Nigeria and Skipper Eye-Q Super Specialty Eye Hospital and Dr Olayiwola Mudashir Bello.
