Abia State Governor,His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti should be applauded for assembling crop of young, talented , resourceful and educated aides in his Government.
Any experienced journalist who come across the likes of Hon Chinedu Ekeke, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor and the Senior Special Assistant( SSA) to the Governor on Youths and Sports Development,Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma,the Senior Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity,Mr Kazie Uko,Chief Press Secretary , (CPS)to the Governor,Mr Chimezie Okigbo, the SSA to the Governor on Revenue including Mr Chukwunenye Nwogu Alajemba, the (SSA )to the Governor on Homeland security would testify to the fact that they are bunch of talented , educated and creative thinkers of young aides to the Governor worth appointing for,
This school of thought was buttressed recently when we met with Mr Chukwunenye Nwogu Alajemba,in an interview session,he was quite an interesting fellow,full of ideas,highly exposed with modern innovative technology at the tips of his finger, from the beginning to the end of interview session with him,you will not help but applaud governor for discovery of this amazing talent given the stuff he is made of.
Less than one year he was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on the Homeland security Agency, including overseeing fire Service stations in the State and Emergency Rescue Ambulances,things are indeed looking up in those critical agencies of the government.
Speaking in an interview with newsmakers.com.ng in his factory road office, Wednesday,Umuahia,Mr Chukwunenye Nwogu Alajemba said when the Gov Alex Otti hired him,asked him to go replicate that he was doing while he was working at United States of America, adding that the governor insisted that Abia must have the best security system comparable to the world standard Abians can be proud.
He added that at homeland security, they are trying to use technology in tracking crimes and criminality,and to be more proactive on crime prevention.
“For me,the Homeland security has to function in a professional way as opposed to the vigilante kind of operation before I came on board,Gov wanted me to deliver the kind of security and not the kind one people are used to,I guess that was the reason why the Governor hired me.” Alajemba said.
We are trying to use technology to track crime and criminality,and to be more proactive, what we are saying,whether it is vigilante or homeland security,how do we deliver security that Abians can be proud of.
The Senior Special Assistant who was a Master degree graduate of Dublin University, Ireland,United States of America studied International Security Management and Conflict Resolution said that they are providing the homeland security office, a conducive environment to operate in by renovating the entire office complex .
He maintained that there is every need to involve all in fire fighting techniques especially students who ought to be trained in the use of fire extinguishers to put off fires, adding that this is to enable all be able to carry out a rapid response in the event of fire out break .
Speaking on their feat on. Security, Mr Alajemba said they have never rested on their oars in fighting crime in the state . He said their method would not be made open but right now they have employed technology devises to fight crime in the state ,they now use tracking device to track criminals.
He disclosed that on the onset the governor Dr Alex Otti ordered him to find out the root cause of crime in the society and they through investigations discovered that consumption of hard drugs by youths have been a contributing factor to crime in the society .
Mr Alajemba who is in charge of Abia State Vigilante now took the resolution to fight drug peddlers and the consumers this he said led to the arrest of a female drug peddler in Umuahia.
With this fight , drug peddlers and the consumers are running away from the state and peace is gradually returning to the state. He observed that the regular payment of workers salary in the state and the regular payment of pensioners by the state governor all contributed to the relative peace currently being witnessed in the state .
According to him when people have access to money, it help to reduce pressure , tension and crime in the society.Gradually night life is coming back to Umuahia because there is peace in the city .
On fire Service: When the Otti led administration came on board in Abia state, one of the areas that was yearning for immediate attention was the Abia State Fire Service Stations . It was to resuscitate the fire stations and provide professional touch that would make the services provided to be not just that of a national standard but that of international rating .
This made the governor to appoint a seasoned professional in International Security Management in the person of Mr Chukwunenye Alajemba.
Mr Alajemba further said upon his appointment, the first thing he did was to take a tour of the fire Service facilities in Umuahia and Aba and discovered that the stations were dilapidated .
He immediately commenced the reforms of the stations , today, he and his team have been able to return the lost glory of the fire Service stations in Umuahia and Aba .
The SSA on Homeland security expressed optimism on the efficiency in turning out emergency situations noting that right now fire fighting in Abia State is of international standard both in timing and services just as the governor desired it.The governor he said bought most of the fire fighting equipments in the stations
In terms of timing , Mr. Alajemba said they were able to reduce the time of rapid response to emergency calls from 17 minutes in December 2023 to 7 to 10 minutes in January 2024 which he said is international timing standard .
For effective operation,the Senior Special Assistant setup a tripartite emergency team, made up of the fire service team , Security Agencies and a Medical team . The team have the mandate to tackle all emergency and distress calls within the stipulated time limit ,the hydrant system are being installed for this ,water boreholes have been drilled at the fire stations .
