FUHSO commences sensitization of University community,Benue, Nigeria on climate change.

The Institute of Global Health and Health Security, (IGH&HS), of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, (FUHSO) has commenced a sensitization programme for the University Community on climate change, held at its Otada campus.
The Director of the Institute, Professor Onyemocho Audu explained that it is pertinent to sensitize the University and other other Communities in Benue South, Nigeria on the Prevalent infectious diseases, identify, diagnosis and make appropriate recommendations for treatment of such ailments.
In a lecture, rolling plan of the activities of the Institute of Global Health, the Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, (FWACP), called on the public to do more on hygiene and be warry of communicable and noncommunicable diseases as well as emerging diseases.
The director thanked the FUHSO Boss, and management of the University for the opportunity to serve and the needed supports to excel on the job.
The host, and Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Innocent Ujah, OON mni, NPOM while welcoming participants, commended the Director of the Institute, Prof Onyemocho Audu for his impressive performance and organization of function, adjudged to be the first of its kind.
The former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, who stated that there is community in Benue South that has no health related cases, hailed Federal government for establishing FUHSO, alluding that the University is not
only closer to the people but addressing the teething health, education, and economic issues.
The VC posited that research has shown that apart from the perennial water scarcity in Otukpo, Ogbadibo and other LGAs, in Benue South, access to clean water, waterborne diseases, Cholera, Lassa Fever among other infectious diseases remain the killer ailments in the communities.
Ujah, therefore, advocated increase attention in the area to reduce death and poverty ratio, called for conserted efforts from government, scholars, NGOs and philanthropists to nip the challenges in the bud. He described the sensitization planned activities by the institute as pure, timely and a child of necessity.
Also in a presentation, Exploring Climate Change Health Nexus – the way forward for the Global South, the Deputy Director, IGH&HS, Dr Augustine Ovie Edegbene charged all and sundry to avoid open defections, littering of the environment, drying of foods on public roads, deforestation to mention a few.
There were goodwill messages from the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Professor Stephen Abah; Bursar of the University – Mister John Aba, FCNA; Provost College of Medicine – Professor Oladapo Shittu; Ag Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, FUHSTHO – Dr. Yemisi Anebi.
Highlight, was questions and answers section by participants and the facilitators, even as speakers and the audience expressed satisfaction with the organization.
